Tamika Hanks Exposed to the Motown sound at an early age, Tamika began singing at age 5. She received her first record player at age 7. It received plenty of use playing records from her father’s collection. The first record she purchased of her own was New Edition’s “Candy Girl”, followed by Michael Jackson’s landmark “Thriller” album. As time passed and her love of music grew, she would sing any and everywhere-in the shower, in school plays, the choir, etc. At age 25, Tamika started singing more seriously, and helped form a group with some of her old high school friends. The group included Teresa Olds who is also part of the Sugar Stick project. Tamika went on to work with several independent producers and sang on the independently released single “The Punani Song”. Tamika was later introduced to Producer Greg Hines (Teresa’s brother) to collaborate on a remake of “Amazing Grace”. Greg was so impressed with her vocal talent, he called her back to become a member of Sugar Stick. |
